FUTSAL MATCH REPORT
Crewe FC Arrows 1 v Betley FC Saxons 12
The Betley FC Saxons started their Futsal 2019/20 campaign in the South Cheshire Futsal League with great intent putting 12 goals past Crewe FC Arrows, the other new team to the Futsal league this year.
We soon discovered that 5-a-side requires a lot of hard work as you have to be constantly on the move. Without wishing to play down our win, we should remember that our opponents (also new to Futsal this year) did not have any substitutes - they were all playing for the whole game so their tiredness became a factor as the game went into the latter stages. With this in mind... we need to make sure that we always take a good sized team - ideally at least 8 players to these games if possible.
Futsal is hard work but great fun and is a fantastic opportunity to improve fitness, develop our ball control skills and improve our passing game and team play. It was great to already see basic improvements in our general shape as we played in a diamond formation. As the game progressed and our strength and work rate overcame our opponents, we experimented with players in different positions and tried to encourage more passing by keeping the number of touches to a minimum.
Our future futsal league games will be more challenging particularly as we line up against Betley FC Tigers, Crewe FC Cobras and the Crewe FC Sharks. These are experienced teams (as we saw from the game before ours)... with well skilled, well drilled players who play with great confidence and great awareness of where their team mates are in the playing area. They will come prepared with fresh-legged substitutes and they will work hard with skill so we will have to stay focused and work-hard from kick-off to the final whistle.
We made a good start into our Futsal journey last night. Everyone put in a great shift and worked hard. There was lots of encouraging signs and good play. A really good effort from everyone ! Well done boys !
